Saltpetre Cave

Late in 2016, I had the opportunity to quickly tour this amazingly intricate preserve located in a very small slice of Hocking County. With a two of ODNR's finest guiding my brief encounter, I was floored with just how much there was to see in the 14 acres that makeup Saltpetre Cave State Nature Preserve. Upon receiving my permit to return earlier this year, I knew I had to do this location some justice. Thankfully, I had calm winds, cool air, and thick patch of fog working in my favor.

Little Rocky Hollow

Little Rocky Hollow was one of the first permit-only state nature preserves (SNP) I visited this year. I woke up a couple hours before dawn on a chilly, early Spring morning, and had little idea what to expect of this 200+ acre plot in the Hocking Hills region.

Kessler Swamp

Taking a look at the map of every State Nature Preserve in Ohio, it's hard to decide where to go first. Given my affinity for regions of Southern Ohio, namely Hocking Hills, starting on familiar turf felt like the right choice.

Ohio Uninterrupted

We've just entered the second half of 2017, and while it's relatively quiet here on the blog, I can assure you that it's anything but! My most recent body of work, Hocking Hills is winding down after three years of study, with a new nature project on the horizon.
