Carbon Journal, Day 2 (with pictures!)
Day 2: The Waiting Game
It's been a little less than 24 hours since tissues were poured. The thick layer of pigmented gelatin has now reduced to half thickness, and shifting from a sticky, glossy surface, to a deep, matte black sheen.
4:31PM - Arrive at the darkroom, 2 tissues ~80% dry, with other 3 on lower rack of dryer needing much more time.
4:38PM - Gathered various support media from furthest reaches of the dakroom. This week's testing will include: fiber paper (glossy), uncoated baryta paper-base, and Fabriano Artistico 300gsm hot press watercolor paper.
4:50PM - After blog pictures captured, dug out the old carbon sensitization notes (these are crucial to keep!!). Poured 1 gallon jug of distilled water into an 11x14 plastic tray to "gas out" over night. "Dead water" (no air bubbles) is key to good adhesion in the mating/transfer portion of the process.
Tomorrow's going to be a LONG day to say the least. Expect a very long couple of journals detailing the bulk of the process.
