Back to the Field

From the day I first hauled the Sinar P2 through the ice and snow back in late 2012, I knew it wouldn't be long before I needed something lighter. But months of using that large, beautiful, precise piece of machinery had spoiled me. I couldn't just go back to the Eastman Commercial B after having ALL the movements. What was an 8x10 shooter to do? Enter a bought of extreme G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome).

Here's the list of things I required in a new 8x10 field camera:

• Sturdy - needed to have the rigidity of my Eastman Commercial B
• Lightweight - needed to be a least half the weight of the Sinar P2
  
• Movements - needed more movements than the Eastman, mainly front standard
  
• Compatibility - needed to accept Sinar lens boards, I wasn't about to move all my lenses back and forth (a very tedious task)
  

When push came to shove, I got a great deal on the camera you see below:

The new (to me) Tachihara 8x10 with Schneider Symmar-S 360 lens. Loving this combo already! ^__^ 

And with that, it's back to the field! There's plenty of summer remaining, time to finish that IR film while it's still good. Maybe even shoot a little more color and x-ray film while I'm at it. ;D
