Local Photographer Owes it BIG to Greater Columbus Arts Council

Since the 1970's the GCAC has been helping keep Central Ohio a well-oiled arts machine by giving back thousands of dollars per year to artists residing the Columbus, OH area.  Non-student artists residing in Franklin county Ohio are eligible for a variety of individual grants and fellowship programs. No strings, no repayments, just funding that artists can use for supplies, professional development, R&D, finishing a feature film, and more! Over the course of the past decade, GCAC has enabled me to learn new skills by attending photographic workshops, experiment with new processes, reach a larger audience online during COVID, and even host all-day Cyanotype workshop that was FREE for the community.

The next project I’m tackling is one that will require a bit more collaboration than in the past, and a touch of patience. I’m taking a deeper look into what makes arts culture tick here in Central Ohio, with the help of my trusty 12x20” banquet camera. For my first portrait in this project, I couldn’t think of any better fitting subject than Mr. Tariq Tarey. Not only has Tariq been a good friend over the course of my photographic journey, he’s a constant source of artistic inspiration and a springboard for countless artistic ideas. Here is is situated in the controlled chaos of his Milo Arts Center studio space.

Applying for GCAC Individual Artist Grant in 2025 and beyond is easier than it’s ever been! The hard working staff at GCAC are an open book when it comes to assistance in writing your grant proposal, and by checking their Events Calendar often you’ll find all sorts of free workshops and resources to help you succeed.

Wrapping up, I just want to give another big thank you to all the folks that currently make the Greater Columbus Arts Council Possible. Mayor of Columbus, OH, Mr. Andrew Ginther, the Columbus City Council, and every single donor that's put their hard-earned money back into local arts. I'll do my best to put this individual grant to use and bring some more unique art back to Columbus.
